About Here We Stand:
Just as Luther posted 95 things that needed changing, we are challenging you to make your list. Old Lutheran is the Center for Lutheran Pride (but not too proud). One of the things that we are certainly not too proud of is our silence in the face of pressure to maintain status quo. This is why Old Lutheran is launching Here We Stand as our theme for 2020/21.
Luther stood in the face of the power of the day and demanded equal opportunity for all believers to understand the Word of God. Just as Luther changed the church and the world for good, we are going to use the coming months to define where WE stand.
We cannot move forward, creating community, seeking peace, spreading God’s love as we are called and sent out to do until WE can name the injustice that stands in the way of ALL of God’s people. We are standing up to say we see it, it is wrong, and it needs to change. Change needs to come individually as well as systematically. “It” is racial injustice in our church and congregations, in society, and in our communities. Until Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, Multiethnic and other People of Color's lives matter to everyone, our community lives unjustly and cannot properly do God’s work.
