500th Anniversary of Diet of Worms
April 18th marks 500 years since Martin Luther stood before the emperor at the Diet of Worms to defend his beliefs. This is where he is said to have famously proclaimed, “Here I stand, I can do no other. God help me. Amen.” He spoke truth to power and did not back down for the fear of being cast out or excommunicated.
500 years later, here WE stand hoping to do the same. Our current reality IS NOT OKAY. It is NOT okay to speak words of hate. It is NOT okay to use xenophobic words or phrases. It is NOT okay to act violently. It is NOT okay to stay silent when people are being murdered in our very own neighborhoods. It is NOT okay.
Here we stand AGAINST hate speech.
Here we stand AGAINST hate speech.
Here we stand AGAINST racism.
Here we stand AGAINST systematic discrimination.
Here we stand FOR equity.
Join us in standing for what we believe in just as Martin Luther did all those years ago.
Here we stand, we can do no other. God help us. Amen.
