Slavery didn’t end with sugar cane, shackles and the south. It just went underground. Worldwide, it is estimated that 40.3 million people are enslaved and trafficked either for their labor and mainly for sex, which is more people enslaved than at any time in history (Global Slavery Index).
There are several organizations that work tirelessly to help prevent, stop or save those people affected by human trafficking. One of these organizations is United Against Human Trafficking (UAHT), which leads a coalition of non-profits, faith organizations and government agencies who’s mission is to end human trafficking. UAHT works to train law enforcement officers, first-responders, and those professions who are likely to come in contact with victims, how to fight human trafficking while they are at work. UAHT also has youth programming to start conversations within their own communities about human trafficking prevention. Learn more about this organization here.
