April 18th marks 500 years since Martin Luther stood before the emperor at the Diet of Worms to defend his beliefs. This is where he is said to have famously proclaimed, “Here I stand, I can do no other. God help me. How can we begin to lead with LOVE? How can we help show that LOVE is louder than HATE? . Sometimes, the identity that we share as Lutherans becomes stronger than the message that we want to share. At Old Lutheran, we hope that we can focus our identity on the LOVE that unites us in Christ. We don't get to pick and choose who "everybody" includes. If we say we love everybody, we must mean it. We can't just talk about it, we must BE about it. The same goes for all the christian sayings that are often thrown around. When we use "love your neighbor" and "all are welcome", we must make sure that our neighbor includes Every. Single.
