Let's Be Honest...
Just as we value transparency in many aspects of our lives, we want to make sure you (our customers) feel that we are being honest and transparent about the decisions that were made leading up to our Here We Stand collection. Learn more below! What is the inspiration behind the Here We Stand designs? We have been working with a diverse panel of people outside our company to create meaningful products that take a stand and start the conversation around injustice with our Lutheran audience. 500th Anniversary of Diet of Worms
April 18th marks 500 years since Martin Luther stood before the emperor at the Diet of Worms to defend his beliefs. This is where he is said to have famously proclaimed, “Here I stand, I can do no other. God help me. Amen.” He spoke truth to power and did not back down for the fear of being cast out or excommunicated. 500 years later, here WE stand hoping to do the same. Our current reality IS NOT OKAY. It is NOT okay to speak words of hate. It is NOT okay to use xenophobic words or phrases. It is NOT...
LOVE > HATE
How can we begin to lead with LOVE? How can we help show that LOVE is louder than HATE? . Sometimes, the identity that we share as Lutherans becomes stronger than the message that we want to share. At Old Lutheran, we hope that we can focus our identity on the LOVE that unites us in Christ. We hope that the message LOVE > HATE can overpower our inclination to preserve old traditions or ways of life, and draw us to the streets where we, for the sake of the world, LOVE ALL PEOPLE. #HereWeStand
It is NOT Okay
It is NOT okay to racialize a virus. It is NOT okay to use xenophobic words or phrases. It is NOT okay to act violently. It is NOT okay to stay silent when eight people, six of them Asian American women, are murdered. Murdered while at work. It is NOT okay. Here we stand against these acts of hate. The violent actions we witnessed on Tuesday were not the first, and they won't be the last unless we stand up. We must begin with letting our family members, friends, neighbors, and even strangers know IT IS NOT OK to make...
Here We Stand for Everyone
We don't get to pick and choose who "everybody" includes. If we say we love everybody, we must mean it. We can't just talk about it, we must BE about it. The same goes for all the christian sayings that are often thrown around. When we use "love your neighbor" and "all are welcome", we must make sure that our neighbor includes Every. Single. Neighbor. and that "all" truly does mean all. We acknowledge that our designs and messages have not always included the "all" that we speak of. We are sorry for the exclusion we have contributed to in...
